Many photographers, even of a good standard, are skeptical whether or not they can actually make money from their camera, from their beloved hobby. But, before you start investigating actual methods and projects to implement, you must consider whether or not you are willing to put in the initial effort to start a business based around photography, because this will turn into a business quickly. Regardless of which of the many routes you take in photography, you are going to have to manage your time and money efficiently if you plan to run a sustainable business, and learn how to sell photos for a living.
A key component in using your digital camera to generate income is managing your time. The different methods of how to sell photos that you find in a reputable guide will all work as described, but you need to make a schedule that works for you and stick to it. If you don't plan carefully you will get little done and subsequently make little money. However, if you work out a schedule for the hours you wish to dedicate to photography, you will find you are far more productive.
Once you start to follow a guide to making an income from photography, don't just pick one plan and go with it. The best approach is to try various different methods, and review which work best for you. For example, some methods will involve the need to be able to talk to people and negotiate contracts, whereas others won't involve talking to anyone. Which is best for you? Only you know. After you have a basic idea of how this works, then you can decide to stick with whichever methods should generate most income and that you are most comfortable with.
As you can see, the question of whether or not you can learn how to sell photos and subsequently make money from your digital camera, is actually a question of whether or not you can motivate yourself to putting the time and energy required into your business. You do not need to work full-time as a photographer to make decent money, but you do need to set yourself a schedule, as this is the only way to ensure all of your time isn't taken up just researching. Maybe this wouldn't be a problem for you, but I find that without a proper schedule, I end up spending too much time plotting, planning and getting very little done.
