So you've decided you're beginning guitar practice. It's a great idea - but if you already lead a hectic lifestyle, how do you find time to fit this in as well? If you hope to successfully master the instrument, regular practice is going to be the only way to achieve this. But you need to get the most out of your time. Amazingly, if you can spare just 30 minutes a day, you can still make progress. All you need to do is make sure you use this time wisely. No time to lose!

Now, let's be clear. One 30 minute session every now and then is not going to help you much. The secret to learning is regularity. Over time, just 30 minutes a day of organised practice will ensure that you make progress bit by bit. And the way to use your time efficiently is to break this down into three 10 minute portions.

For the first 10 minutes, you go back to what you learned in your last guitar tutorials session. In effect, you continue where you left off, and spend this portion just practicing what you learned last time. This will reinforce previous learnings and help ensure you have grasped them sufficiently. It also gets you in the playing mood and loosens you up nicely for the next part.

In portion 2, you are going to move onto the next section of your training program, the next exercise. This section is more reflective. Take this time to study what you are about to learn. If it's a new song, for instance, carefully study the chords required. Think about what you have learned previosly, and how you can apply this to the new song. Practice putting your fingers where they will need to go, and how you will move them as you go from one chord to the next.

For the final 10 minute section, start practicing in earnest this next part of your training. So again, in the above example, put the studying you have just done into practice. Start actually playing the song, piece by piece, if necessary. Don't worry if, after 10 minutes, you haven't mastered the whole song. The important thing is that you have made some progress.

Next day, go through this 30 minute training ritual again. Hopefully you can see that with this simple concept, you will soon be moving in the right direction. Just by simply following these 3 parts each day - loosen up with what you know, study some new ideas, and play the new ideas - you are following a natural progression, and will find it easier each time you pick up the guitar. The concept is simple - the secret is sticking to it daily. Let's be honest here - if you can't find half an hour a day to practice, are you serious about moving from guitar beginner to guitar virtuoso?
